BOTOX®
The FDA approved BOTOX® as an effective way to
treat wrinkles on the forehead, between the brows, crow's feet (eye
area) and around the mouth. Patients say that they have a softer,
friendlier, more rested appearance after BOTOX. BOTOX® has also
been used to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) in the palms
and armpits.
A mini neck lift is effective with injections of BOTOX® in neck
bands. The effects of BOTOX® are temporary, usually returning
within four to six months. Lines around the mouth return in 2-3
months. BOTOX® is injected directly into the muscle through
a small needle in the physician's office. Patients can return to
work that day and in most cases could participate in a social engagement
that evening.
(before & after)
What is Botox®?
BOTOX® is a natural and purified protein that relaxes the muscles
by blocking nerve impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles
related to expression. These muscles are responsible for frown lines,
crow's feet, and expression wrinkles.
With a few tiny injections, BOTOX® Cosmetic blocks
the release of acetylcholine, the chemical that causes muscles to
contract.
Once the muscles are at rest, the skin becomes smoother, creating
a more natural and relaxed appearance.
Are BOTOX® treatments safe?
BOTOX® injections have been used safely and effective
for over ten years to treat a variety of medical conditions. Each
year, thousands of patients receive these treatments. It is now
quickly becoming a popular treatment for reversing the visible signs
of aging.
What should I expect from the treatments?
This simple 10-minute procedure consists of a few tiny injections.
Using a tiny micro-needle, BOTOX® is injected into several locations
on the face. The needle is so fine that discomfort associated with
the injection is minimal, similar to a bug bite. No sedation is
required, so you can resume your normal activities immediately.
Usually you will see the effects of the treatment within three days.
The maximum benefit is reached in two weeks and lasts for about
3-4 months. Repeat BOTOX® treatment is suggested for sustained
results.
How long can I be treated with BOTOX®?
Treatment with BOTOX® can typically be repeated indefinitely.
Occasionally, the dose may be adjusted to achieve the desired effects
with subsequent treatments.
What side effects may be experienced
when using BOTOX®?
All medications have some side effects. With BOTOX® the side
effects are usually mild. Temporary bruising is the most common
side effect. Some people notice temporary weakness of muscles or
discomfort at the injection site. Other effects may include droopy
eyelid, eye irritation, dry eye, tearing, and light sensitivity.
Because the effects of BOTOX® are reversible, any side effects
are temporary, lasting up to a few weeks.
Can BOTOX® reduce sweating?
In some people, BOTOX® can reduce (or even stop) excessive sweat
production (hyperhidrosis) in the palms and armpits for up to one
year. Ask for more information!
